About the event

Set up a simple camp inside the vast forest and embark on a bushcarft journey appying an Aborigional breth of knowlege .

On this Wild Britian series we explore Hamsterley Forest and engage in a multitude of workshop style bushcraft activities-Foraging and tracking

Our journey here will take us into the forest and back again, giving you the chance to explore and take in the woods while learning the bushcraft way in skilled hands on experiences.

Like all of our courses this one is fully caterd for and you have the opotunity to stay in  Tipi lodge during the experiance, here at Hamsterley you can build and make a home from natural matirials in one of several shelters we can construct

We will be engaging in several primitive skills workshops including ancient fires, natural crafts, foraging and tracking. You will have the freedom, to experement and explore while learing side by side with like minded indivisuals. 

 WHAT’S COVERED: 

°The history of each method of primitive fires explored detailed over campfire chats

°Hand drill and bow drill manufacturing and use (everyone will take home a hand drill / bow drill set)

°Iron Pyrite and flint sparks

°Amadou production, and other fungus based tinders

°Carrying fire

°Fire safety and how to leave no trace at a camp

°Fire safety and regulations

°Foraging workshop 

°Wild foods Identification and sustainable foraging

°plant, tree, Fungi , nut and flower identification

°knowlage on trees for their importance of reading the land

°sustainable foraging and the code of foraging

°Wildlife tracking , sign identification and natural navigation in a desidious forest

°Sun and its impact of nature - How to read the landscape to plan a Rout or scope an area

°Natural shelter building

°safe / good practice

°leave no trace

°Cooking feasts with the primitive fire

°Tree and plant ID, their uses for food and medicine

°Using a stream to wash, along with utilising a warm camp shower

°Meat and other food preservation through drying and smoking

°Natural blankets and natural bedding You’ll have the opportunity to ditch your sleeping bag and mat, using natures resources instead

°Tracking and observation skills

°How to fell small trees with an axe

°knife safety and the law

°carving techiniques - importance of carving grips

°selection of carving wood sustainability around copicing

°feather stick making for fire lighting practicality

°Spoon carving

°Pine resin collection, processing and uses

Soap making and hand balm for natural sources

°Primitive glues and natural cordage

°Bread baking and foraging for seasonal wild foods

°Amadu leather production

°Natural tinder's, coiling tinder and nettle fire roll

° Camp fire - star gazing and eaveining folk law

Small group size with a maximum of 10 guests to ensure we create a subtle atmosphere in the woods, and you get a very high interaction time with the instructor.

A full kit list is given out on booking, but you won't need much more than a sleeping bag and warm clothing.

This course is fully catered starting with the evening meal on the Friday, and finishing with lunch on Sunday. Please inform us of any dietary requirements, we're happy to cater to any needs.

Due the involved nature of this course, we don't feel its suitable to under 16 year olds (please ask if you have any questions)
