Join us at the Peak District Heritage Center, we run workshops throughout the year. It is highly recommend you spend a few days in the area and combine a weekend of Bushcraft, prehistory and nature!

Flintknapping

Discover the oldest craft in the world, Flintknapping and learn how our earliest ancestors make tools to survive in the Stone Age.Lewis will guide you through the process of making flint tools to help you produce your own flint artefacts to take home!

Hazel Flatbow 

Crafting

Using basic woodland essensial tools, the knife and axe - Learn how to craft a primitive Flatbow from hazel in this two day workshop. Pick up the Bowyers principils, flemish bow string swisting and advanced skills of carving which will go with you  in your mind and muscles.

AMADU MAKING

Explore how amadu, a fungal leather is made from extracting the trauma layer from the Horeses Hoof Fungi. Youll learn first hand how to find the Birch Polypore, its medicainal qualitys, reciving step by step guidence makeing an Amadu pouch to take home. Amadu features on the red list for heratage crfats and has been a feature in British archology with the earlyest uses of Amadu in Britain dating over 12,000 years ago.

Wild foods: that's what Hunting and Gathering is all about. This is a journey into Britain's ancient way of life as we attempt to find the food available within the landscape. When we imagine how our ancestors lived, almost certainly it's their Hunter - Gatherer ways that stand out to us. Foraging and gathering plays an equitable role in human existence and has a significant positive impact on the landscape. By learning the ways of the forager we can become more in tune with the seasons and gain a deeper understanding of the natural world as well as our role within it.

Ötzi Experience Weekend

 

Make your own replicas of Ötzi the Iceman’s toolkit under the expert guidence of Lewis. This one day workshop will focus on the two most iconic objects found with Ötzi: his flint knife & wild cordage sheath.

Descover the joy of wood carving and learn how to carve your very own unique spoon from a selection of native wood types. Lewis and Eva will guide you through the process of spoon carving using our simple yet elegent tool sets.

Bone & Antler carving 

 

Bone and antler has been used from the start of prehistory up to the modern day for making tools and ornamentation. Join experimental archaeologist Lewis Tingle to make replicas of prehistoric bone and antler artefacts using authentic tools and materials including harpoons, needles, pins, combs, belt hooks, spear points and fish hooks to name a few - which will you choose?

Do students keep the items that they make during a workshop?

Absolutely, and we would love to see the items in use  

Do participants need prior experience?

No, we can instruct and guide beginners as well as those with some past experience. Why not check out the Into Wilderness you tube channel for some further advice  

Do you provide risk assortments and Public liability Insurance?

Yes. Into Wilderness also has a Public Liability Insurance with an indemnity limit of up to £10,000,000. 

Do you provide lunch?

The workshop venue may provide lunch, and a selection of hot drinks if stated on the course details. Otherwise Lunch should be brought with you to the venue.
