Overview
Woodcraft is the backbone of the woodsman's skill, the knowledge, wisdom and respect for our natural world that is attributed to the act of wood carving is something that is nurtured through practice and patience. Hand tools such as the axe, adze and knife have evolved over the course of 50,000 years, its quite amazing to be able to carve something while the whole time knowing that your craft is but one part in the journey of our species.
Familiarity with even the simplest of hand tools, the axe and the knife can take years of practice to become efficient, each cut you make undoubtedly unravels another lesson in the art of woodcraft.
Whether you're a beginner, a bodger or a qualified joiner there's always knowledge and joy that can be taken from the ways of green or otherwise natural woodwork.
One of the great things about woodcraft is where you go the skills go with you. The knowledge and wisdom afforded by woodcraft is carried with you in your mind and muscles.
Woodcarving is an essential skill in the world of bushcraft and wilderness living, where many items can be made on the go, making any journey more memorable.
Goals

Nessled within the rolling limestone hills of the dark peak, our woodcraft courses offer a variety of experiences. Blending knowledge with the opportunity to explore first hand in the skills that encompass the course itself. Something that is always important during any woodcraft course is giving our students the confidence to handle sharp tools with safe techniques that minimise injury. Once this hurdle is overcome throughout the course it is by far the most important aspect of our course is for students to enjoy their craft, putting their all into the project only makes the finished item more cherishable and the whole experience a memorable one. Finally without the knowledge of how to care for the tools we use its impossible to further the journey, therefore students will learn the principles of tool maintenance - each course offers a different aspect of woodcraft, while our range of heritage crafts aims to share an insight into historical woodwork, there's also many courses which solely focus on the journey of woodcraft itself.
