About the event

Set up a simple camp by the beautiful lake Windemere and embark on a bushcarft journey appying an Aborigional breth of knowlege . On this Wild Britian series we explore the Lake District in early spring.

From the bank of lake Windermere we will be journeying to a nearby anccient woodland and lake before returning to our camp. 

Like all of our courses this one is fully caterd for and you have the opotunity to stay in  Tipi lodge during the experiance. We will be engaging in several primitive skills workshops including ancient fires, natural crafts, foraging and tracking. You will have the freedom, to experement and explore while learing side by side with like minded indivisuals. 

 WHAT’S COVERED: 

  • The history of each method of primitive fires explored detailed over campfire chats
  • Hand drill manufacturing and use
  • Iron Pyrite and flint sparks
  • Amadou production, and other fungus based tinders
  • Carrying fire
  • Bow Drill and hand drill
  • Tinder collection 
  • Fire managment
  • Foraging workshop - an ancient woodland 
  • Wild foods preocessing 
  • Wildlife tracking - Red Deer 
  • Observation skills
  • Read sign
  • How to set up a trail camp 
  • Cooking feasts with the primitive fire- minimal utelsils 
  • Tree and plant ID, their uses for food and medicine
  • Using a stream to wash, along with utilising a warm camp shower
  • (Meat preservation through drying and smoking) 
  • Woven natural blankets and natural bedding You’ll have the opportunity to ditch your sleeping bag and mat, using natures resources instead
  • Tracking and observation skills
  • How to fell small trees with just a knife, and with an axe and bow saw
  • Spoon carving - woodcarft workshop on an eavning
  • Pine resin collection, processing and uses
  • Primitive glue making
  • Soap making and hand balm for natural sources
  • Bread baking and foraging for spring greens
  • A Hand Drill set and Amadou Tile is made by each adult attending the course to take home.

  • Making and using bone tools
  • Star gazing

  • Small group size with a maximum of 10 guests to ensure we create a subtle atmosphere in the woods, and you get a very high interaction time with the instructor.
  • A full kit list is given out on booking, but you won't need much more than a sleeping bag and warm clothing.
  • This course is fully catered starting with a camp set up and evening meal on the Friday, and finishing with lunch and a final activity on Sunday. Please inform us of any dietary requirements, we're happy to cater to any needs.
  • Due the involved nature of this course, we don't feel its suitable to under 16 year olds (please ask if you have any questions)
  • Under 18's must be accompanied by a participating adult
