About the event
Family Prehistoric survival
People in prehistoric Britain had a close relationship with the land aswell as animals and plants which the resources came from, what does that tell us about the past? What were the first tools? What did people in the stone age eat? Just some of the big questions that we’ll find out on the introductory talk to start the day.
Once we move onto the making, everyone will try their hand at a range of ancient crafts throughout the day such as flint knapping, perhaps one of the most ingenious and important inventions of the Stone Age. Primitive clay pottery is also a highlight as children will learn how to extract raw clay then fire it into a pot. You’ll use stone tools to carve, shape and smooth the bone point before drilling an eye for the needle with a flint drill. Needles would be rather ineffective…
