Indigenous Bushman Course

The Indigenous Bushman Course is designed for those who want to further their knowledge & for those with some prior experience of bushcraft.

The course encompasses a wide range of fascinating skills and techniques, which will enthuse keen students. The skills taught on this course will give students an insight into the bio region and for survival techniques here in Britain's forest & Lakes region.

The course is a personal journey, a pathway to a indigenous lifeway where you'll find that living with Nature is both rewarding and insightful. Carefully designed, this unique three day experiance will focus on exploring ideas such as Kinship with nature as well as ancient skills and Britans pre history. Blending traditional butterfat skills with primitive techniques that force us to slow down and appreciate the time spent in the nature.

 

‘WE ARE NATURE’

 

From a base camp located within the Grizedale forest, students will journey through the forest learning about Wild foods, wildlife and the way of the wild human. Over three days students will develop a deeper understanding of Nature here in Britain as well as our role within it, Students will have first hand experience practising bushcraft skills and ancient crafts such as Bark basketry, Fire, seasonal foraging, Woodcraft, Primitive skills with  Further time that maybe spent on specific topics, going into more depth on subjects.

  • Seasonal Shelter Builds & establishing a camp

  • Yurt and hot stove ( living in a yurt over the course ) 

  • Advanced Fire Craft including friction fires ( Bow & hand drill method) 

  • Bark Containers ( May - July )

  • Wild Medicines & Herbalism 

  • Natural Cordage 

  • Spring foraging & Wild foods including wild and seasonal edibles (over 30 species of fruit, flowers, foliage, fungi & roots) 

  • Outdoor cooking 

  • Bread baking in Dutch Oven

  • Game preparation & using every part of the animal 

  • Woodcraft

  • Evening Projects / Amadou leather bag or leather work

  • Flint knapping & Flint/bone tools

  • Ancient Crafts 

  • Pickling and preserving food

 

Remember - This isn’t just a course; it’s a chance to escape the chaos of modern life and reconnect with the earth. Camp under the stars, gather around the fire, and share stories with fellow participants who share your passion for the great outdoors.

DETAILS:

  • 4pm Friday - 4pm Sunday

     

  • Please note our terms and conditions before booking

  • Small group size with a maximum of 10 guests to ensure we create a subtle atmosphere in the woods, and you get a very high interaction time with the instructor.

  • This course welcomes people at all levels, however people with a general understanding of wild camping and some basic bushcraft skills will settle into the woods easier. If you feel you need to gain a baseline before attending, we recommend attending our bushcraft introduction -  if you have any questions please do feel free to ask.

     

  • A full kit list is given out on booking, you will need some basic camping equipment to attend the course but don’t let that be a limiting factor for you, we have a store room full of gear we can lend you if needed.

  • This course is catered with evening meals, lunches and breakfasts. Please inform us of any dietary requirements, we're happy to cater to any needs.

  • Due the involved nature of this course, we don't feel its suitable to under 16’s (please ask if you have any questions)

  • Under 18’s must be accompanied by a participating adult
