Yew Long bow

Yew Long bow in the making -

This Yew stave has been seasoned for 3 months, once hewed into shape it will be seasoned for a further 2 - 3 months until I come to Finnish this bow.

Unlike Hazel staves which can go from harvesting to working into a bow in under 16 weeks, This piece of Yew is a much more valuable and versatile piece of wood that requires much more attention.

Once hewed into shape with the belly roughed out and sided taken down to 40mm width on the grip and 20mm for each limb tip the stave will be scraped and sanded before heat treated over hot embers and smeared with beezwax.

These bows are made in the bush, not a workshop with heavy machinery at hand, just simplistic traditional tools.
